Welcome to part two of how to use neutral decor to add warmth and character to your home. Whether you want a sumptuous space of quiet luxury or a characterful retreat full of vintage charm then neutral decor could be the answer.
A quick recap – the secret to creating a neutral decor scheme with depth and warmth is to create a palette of complimentary tones. Depending on the look you want to achieve, these could range from chalk and porcelain to warm beige and taupe to caramel and cocoa. Create layers of texture with chunky knits, textured cushions, cosy velvets and natural materials such as rattan, linen and wood. Complete the look with sculptural accents in stone, ceramics and tinted glass.
Porcelain, Clotted Cream, Featherstone, Warm Clay, Salted Caramel Rust-Oleum
In part two of my review of neutral decor I’m going to focus on two more looks – modern neutrals and classic cottage. Check out part one for cosy organic and Japandi neutral decorating styles.

Modern Neutrals
The latest trend in neutral decor utilises a darker palette of taupe, mushroom and caramel. Plush sectionals or modular furniture with flowing curves are combined with accessories in stone, marble, dark wood, tortoiseshell or confetti glass. Brass or gold accents add a touch of quiet luxury.

Classic Cottage Neutrals
Echoing my recent series on the modern vintage look, the classic or cottage-style approach to neutral decor is reflected in recent trends such as cottagecore, English country and grand millennial style. Think panelling, plush armchairs with scroll arms and turned wooden legs, vintage-style accessories such as ruffled cushions and pleated lampshades, subtle stripes and delicate florals. It’s a whimsical way to add warmth and charm to your home.
