Neutral decor is a fantastic and versatile way to add warmth and character to your home. Whether you want a calming, zen-like space or a cosy, cocooning retreat then neutral decor, with it’s simplicity and quiet luxury, could be the answer.
The secret to creating a neutral decor scheme with depth and warmth is to create a palette of complimentary tones. Depending on the look you want to achieve, these could range from chalk and porcelain to warm beige and taupe to caramel and cocoa. Create layers of texture with chunky knits, textured cushions, cosy velvets and natural materials such as rattan, linen and wood. Complete the look with sculptural accents in stone, ceramics and tinted glass.

In part one of this dive into neutral decor I’m going to focus on two looks – cosy organic and Japandi. Check out part two for modern and classic neutral decorating styles.
Cosy / Japandi / Modern / Cottage
Cosy Organic Neutrals
My first neutral decor look is organic, cosy and laid back, full of flowing curves and soft textures. Combine a palette of warm neutrals such as sand, beige and taupe with cosy boucle, bobbin vases, textured throws, pampas grass, sculptural ceramics and statement lighting to create a cocoon of quiet luxury.

Japandi Neutrals
My second neutral decor look is a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian minimalist design known as Japandi. Create a calming, zen-like space with a palette of chalk, plaster and matt black. Focus on natural materials such as pale wood, rattan and linen. Add warmth and character by layering cosy textured cushions and throws, sculptural lighting and abstract art.
