Continuing my series on modern vintage decor, it’s time to consider modern vintage wallpaper and paint colours.
First, what do I mean by modern vintage? Well, it’s a classic decor style reflected in trends such as cottagecore, grand millennial and the English cottage look. Characterised by muted pastels, delicate floral patterns, pleated lampshades and hand-painted china, it’s a great way to add character to a space. It takes inspiration from the past in terms of colours and styles, while keeping it functional for today. Plus, a period home or a collection of antique furniture are great, but absolutely not required to get the look. For more see:

Modern Vintage Paint Colours
My top paint colour picks to get the modern vintage look are warm neutrals, dusky pinks, sage greens and sky blues, with accents in mustard yellow, earthy red or navy blue. I suggest using the colour drenching technique, which means painting not just your walls, but skirting boards, doors, picture rails, and window frames in the same colour. The creates a cosy, seamless look, allowing furniture, accessories and artwork to become the focal points. Rust-Oleum paints are perfect for this approach, suitable for multiple surfaces including interior woodwork, furniture, radiators, floors and even uPVC.

Modern Vintage Wallpaper
Wallpaper is a fantastic way to introduce pattern into any space. For the modern vintage look choose smaller repeat patterns such as delicate botanicals or ticking stripe. Alternatively, opt for classic designers such as William Morris.

Consider placing wallpaper above a dado rail or combining it with panelling. Use it in rooms or places you might not normally consider such as kitchens, bathrooms or on the ceiling.
