Welcome to the latest instalment of my new series on modern vintage home decor. This time we are focusing on modern vintage lighting, including pendant shades, bobbin lamps, pleated and scalloped lampshades, brass finishes and vintage style wall sconces. Read on for my top easy lighting solutions (no electricians required!) that are perfect for the English cottage look, grand millennial style, cottagecore or granny chic.

Pendant Lighting
When choosing ceiling/pendant lighting for the modern vintage look, opt for bright pops of colour, brass finishes and pleated or scalloped shades in natural materials such as linen, silk or rattan.

Lamps & Lampshades
When it comes to desk or table lamps look for tapered, scalloped or pleated lampshades and wooden bobbin or antique brass finish lamp bases. Lamps can be a great way to introduce colour and pattern into your home, so don’t be afraid to mix and match to get the look you want. For example, Dunelm currently have fantastic paint-your-own wooden bobbin table and floor lamp bases (find my paint recommendations here).

Wall Lights
Another great way to add vintage character to your home is with wall lights or sconces. Plug-in wall lights can be an easier, budget-friendly option. They can be hung anywhere (within reach of a socket) and no electrician is required. Shades may be sold separately, in which case look for a small lampshade (approx 12-15cm) or a candle clip shade.
For more lighting ideas see my Guide to the best alternative, rechargeable and wireless lighting solutions, which includes plug-in wall lights, cordless lamps and rechargeable bulbs.
