How to get the look: moody dark decor

Decadent and glamorous, snug and cosy, my social media feeds are currently full of stunning images of dark decor. I love this look, characterised by moody black, plum, teal or olive. There’s a maximalist approach to furniture and accessories, with velvet, faux fur, greenery, quirky wall art and pops of neon.

Abigail Ahern, one of the pioneers of this look, has created a space that is both luxurious and cosy utilising faux fur, feature lighting and greenery. Photo by Maren Ingeborg Gråblomst.

This bedroom, styled by Lucy St George of Rockett St George, sees photo ledge shelves combined with a pink neon heart to create a unique focal point.

On Instagram @archer.t.j has paired deep moody green walls with yellow velvet and a pop of yellow neon. Brass accents and and a gallery wall complete the look.

Also from Instagram @mydarkhome_ has chosen a lush pink velvet sofa, showing that dark decor doesn’t always mean dark furniture and accessories.

To achieve the dark decor look go for luxurious jewel tones accented with pink, mustard, brass or neon. Cosy textures such as velvet or faux fur, house plants and artificial flowers will soften the feel of the room. Finish with quirky accessories.
