Review of the latest Spring home collections

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the daffodils are starting to bloom, all of which makes me feel like Spring is just around the corner. Plus, if the stream of new Spring home announcements is anything to go by, Spring shopping at least has already arrived!

You might still be snuggled under your favourite winter blanket, but fear not! I’ve sifted through it all to find the biggest trends to freshen up your home this Spring, including sun-baked shades, hand-made accessories and natural materials, plus my top picks.

Spring Colour Trends

As predicted in my post on the top home decor trends of the year, warm earthy tones are gaining in popularity over cooler greys and blush pinks.

Many Spring collections have utilised a palette of sun-baked shades including dusky pink, ochre and clay, evoking a desire for warmer days and a more relaxed pace of life.

I’m also seeing dusky pinks paired with sage greens, a contemporary twist on the traditional Spring theme of bringing the outside in. Floral patterns and botanical prints are combined with dusky rose textiles, baked clay tones and terrazzo accents to create a warm, Mediterranean vibe.

Mustard accents continue to prove popular, along with geometric and travel-inspired prints.

Craftsmanship and Wabi-Sabi

Craftsmanship is also a popular theme, with many collections featuring pieces which are handmade or non-uniform. This reflects the growing influence of Wabi-Sabi – a Japanese philosophy focused on accepting and finding beauty in the imperfect. Etsy is the perfect place to search for unique items such as handmade ceramics or linen bedding, while also supporting small businesses and independent artisans.

The increasing interest in unique objects can be seen in the latest must-have home decor accessory – hand-made glazed ceramics such as vases and hanging planters, offering the perfect place to display your Spring flowers or faux ferns.

Natural Materials

Natural materials which can be handwoven, such as rattan, wicker and jute, are also bringing a softer, more organic feel to many collections.

Furniture made from natural materials, particularly statement chairs, creates a key focal point and a great place to relax with layered textiles.

The overall effect has much in common with the Scandi trend – clean lines, neutral colours, natural materials – but the addition of patterned textiles and greenery creates a more relaxed, laid-back vibe.

My top picks for Spring

Look for earthy and sun-baked shades such as dusky pink, ochre, baked clay and sage green, paired with mustard, terrazzo and geometric accents. Soften clean lines and neutral colours with hand-made glazed ceramics, linen bedding, patterned textiles and greenery to create a fresh but relaxed vibe. Complete the look with statement furniture in natural materials such as rattan or wicker.
